It was this time last year that we felt the need to differentiate ourselves from traditional web design firms. We were offering much more than interface design and coding, we were consulting with our clients, providing strategic brand direction, and designing creative campaigns. All of this creativity was supported with usability testing, focus group facilitation, and keen information architecture.
We needed to break away from the pack. After thoughts of renaming the company we settled in on a strategy. Keep the Modal name but redesign the logo and the messaging.
So with that plan we began a one year journey of self discovery, client interviews, multitudes of design iterations, and a self promotion campaign that would highlight our progress using the social web like: Facebook, Twitter, and Flickr.
The Mark
We needed a mark that reflected our focus on user experience but also added a dash of playfulness to highlight our approachable nature. We believe that this logo truly defines us.
The Message
How do you differentiate yourself among a sea of web design firms, user experience companies, and digital agencies? It’s not easy. But we found our voice.
Modal is a digital agency that specializes in user experience design and social media. We focus on the human aspect of technology while remaining in tune with trends and the power of influence in the media. We are Modal.
The Look
We like clean design. So we wanted to stay clean but add a little “flavor” with other design assets. Now we can use the arrow and the “o” in a multitude of creative ways.
Services
While defining our rebrand we were also finalizing our new Social Media Management service line. Social media is everywhere and it is increasingly difficult for clients to manage all of the places their message exists. Managed by Jason Caulk, we’ve come up with a process to manage brand voice on sites like: Facebook and Twitter. In this economy, brands cannot afford to not be present in the social media space but they also can’t afford to hire someone in-house to keep up with all of tasks needed to create a presence or gain influence. That’s where we step in. We meet with the client to determine the brand voice, key messages, target audiences and tweet, post, and moderate on their behalf. We become their brand stewards.
Next Steps
We plan to continue to refine our message. By remaining agile and attentive to the needs of our clients and emerging brands; we will continue to shape our business to be relevant and proactive. After all, it’s what our clients expect.
Check out the creation of the Modal rebrand on Facebook. It’s a great illustration of the process.
