It is time to remove the veil. There is another world beyond web site design that includes psychology, usability testing, creative exercises to extract the root of a brand, and much more. Allow me to introduce you to User Experience Design.
User Experience or UX as it is commonly referred is the combination of art and science. It goes beyond creating the “pretty” by defining the audience, the appeal of the brand to that audience, and how to promote or sell a product with the least amount of computer interface interference.
It’s great to have a good looking site but it’s not great when that design does not enhance your brand, educate your audience, or allow them to successfully complete a transaction on your site. All show and no go makes for a failed web site design.
User Experience professionals make sure that a navigation scheme is intuitive. They ensure that user goals are always considered while playing a delicate balance with the needs of the business. They are, in essence, user advocates and brand stewards.
As the field matures more clients will ask specifically for UX- not just design. In these economic times, companies cannot afford to design a site or release a product that has not included the voice of the user. UX is an investment in the success of your site.
