We try to follow our own advice when it comes to social media. We review all the security setting on Facebook. Our Twitter page is clearly identifiable as the Modal page. We made sure not to post pictures of ourselves doing crazy stunts that would need a disclaimer.
Thinking we are doing the right thing I took a look at our followers on Twitter. I was quite surprised. Who knew that we were getting a fair share of followers from that would make us blush. Are they that interested in user experience? All kidding aside we blocked the followers because at the end of the day we would not want our online reputation tarnished because we didn’t take a few minutes to review our followers.
After bringing up this subject with our peers they had the same issues and concerns. I have to ask, is Twitter going to do a better job of filtering out questionable content and profile pictures? What do you think – should Twitter get in or stay out of the growing controversy?

I’m fine with Twitter doing basic spam-prevention, but for now I’d like it to remain mostly unregulated. I check my followers a few times a week. If anyone is blatantly pornographic or otherwise inappropriate, I block them. But if it’s not, I just let it be. I think there’s a pretty good understanding in Twitterdom that anyone can follow just about anyone, so it’s not a big deal to have weird followers. Now, if I’m following someone and they get out of control, then it’s bye-bye. Because I do think that who I follow reflects upon me.
