Going over this week’s Social Media news I came across CNN’s article on “The 12 Most Annoying Types of Facebookers”. It got me thinking, you always hear the negative sides of Social Media – Facebook and Twitter specifically. I wanted to shed a little positivity on the two platforms.

I agree the quizzes, flower patches, and games are a little annoying and some Facebookers love them. I on the other hand along with millions of other Facebook users log on for a different reason.

Here is my abbreviated list of reasons to join and more importantly to use Facebook.
1. Connect with past friends or co-workers.
2. Networking – Let’s face it does anyone not network?
3. Posting Pictures – try to keep it PG.
4. Joining a Group or Business Page – they provide Facebook only deals, have fun contests and even give away products.
5. Update Your Status – if you just got back from vacation and want to find what your friends are up to – just check your status.

Twitter has reached a cult like status among many circles because it has so much value that users are tapping into. Does it have its problems? Yes – but it does have some great uses also.
1. Current News – faster than a reporter can get in front of a camera and say live from the scene. Traffic jams, road closures any local news can be found on Twitter these days.
2. See what your peers have to say.
3. See what your competitors are doing.
4. Links – you can send them and see what others are linking to – we love Twitter links.
5. How else are you going to see what @aplusk, @iamdiddy and any other celebrities are up to? You may just be surprised at the comments you will read.
